## Our Starlink Maritime installation process
Every installation follows the same documented steps, so the result is predictable whether the vessel is in Rotterdam for a day or in a shipyard for a month.
- **1. Vessel survey**: On board or from drawings and photos: mounting options, blockage from masts and radomes, cable routes, deck penetrations and available power.
- **2. Antenna position**: A clear view of the sky, safe distance from radar and other transmitters, and access for future maintenance.
- **3. Mounting & cable routing**: Marine-grade mounts, UV-resistant cable, watertight cable glands or deck penetrations and neat routing to the equipment rack.
- **4. Power**: Correct supply from the ship's mains or UPS, with protection sized to the terminal and router.
- **5. Commissioning & speed test**: Activation, obstruction check, firmware update and measured download, upload and latency results recorded on board.
- **6. Handover & documentation**: Commissioning report, network diagram, photos of the installation and a short briefing for the master and crew.

## Firewall, crew Wi-Fi and failover done properly
Starlink delivers the bandwidth; the onboard network decides who gets it and what happens when a link drops. We integrate the terminal with the equipment already on board or supply a new, managed setup:

Our engineers attend vessels at berth, at anchor by launch and in shipyards. For other ports in Europe and worldwide we travel with the hardware and a pre-configured network.

## What we need to prepare your installation
With the right information up front, most Starlink installations are completed within a single port call. Please send us:

- Vessel name and IMO number, vessel type and size
- Port, berth and expected ETA/ETD
- Preferred terminal, or your data needs and trading area so we can advise
- Photos or drawings of the mast, wheelhouse roof and equipment room
- Existing connectivity and network equipment on board (VSAT, OneWeb, 4G/5G, firewall)
- Whether you need the Starlink subscription, crew Wi-Fi or remote monitoring

We confirm the scope, materials and a fixed quotation before the vessel arrives, so there are no surprises on board.

## Starlink Maritime installation questions
### How long does a Starlink Maritime installation take?

A single terminal with standard cabling is usually installed and commissioned within one working day. Longer cable runs, new deck penetrations, multiple terminals or full network integration can take two to three days. We plan the work around the port call.

### Where in the Netherlands do you install Starlink on vessels?

Across the Rotterdam port area (Waalhaven, Botlek, Europoort, Maasvlakte), Dordrecht, Amsterdam and IJmuiden, as well as in Antwerp, Ghent and Zeebrugge in Belgium. We also travel to other European ports and worldwide.

### Can you integrate Starlink with our existing VSAT, OneWeb or 4G/5G?

Yes. We configure automatic failover and load balancing so traffic moves between Starlink, OneWeb, VSAT, Inmarsat and 4G/5G based on availability, priority or cost, using MikroTik, Marpoint, Peplink or Fortinet equipment.

### Do you set up crew Wi-Fi and separate networks?

Yes. We create separate VLANs for bridge, business and crew traffic, set up crew Wi-Fi with vouchers or data limits, and apply firewall rules so crew usage cannot affect operational systems.

### What documents do we receive after commissioning?

A commissioning report with measured speed and latency results, photos of the installation, a network diagram with IP and VLAN details, and the configuration backup of the router or firewall.

### Do you supply the Starlink hardware and subscription?

We can supply the terminal, mounts, cables and network equipment, and arrange a Starlink Maritime data plan. If you already have the hardware, we install and integrate it for you.

### What happens if Starlink goes down at sea?

With failover configured, the vessel switches automatically to its backup link. Our engineers monitor installations remotely and provide 24/7 support; if hardware needs attention, we attend at the next port.
