Dish placement
You do not need to apply for a permit from the municipality to install a dish. Unless your home is registered as a monument. Purchase contracts sometimes make difficult decisions about the placement of dishes. However, a direct ban on dishes is not legally valid. This is in conflict with the Treaty of Rome, which stipulates that everyone must be able to receive the radio and television channels of their choice. It is more difficult with provisions in the purchase contract of your home that prohibit drilling or hanging objects. Here you will have to ask permission from the residents’ association or architect.
Troubled by dish bans?
In the Netherlands, like all other countries, we have to respect the universal declarations of human rights. This states, among other things, that everyone must have the freedom to receive the information they wish. In addition, we have a Building Decree in the Netherlands, which states that a satellite dish up to a diameter of 200cm may be installed without a permit. Of course there are exceptions. For example, if you live in a protected village area, you have a light permit requirement when installing a satellite dish.
If you are faced with a ban on satellite dishes from an owners association or housing association, there is a good chance that this ban is not legally valid.
