Can you use Cardsharing at home or outside the house?
Many households with a subscription usually have multiple viewing areas in the house. of which they all have their own smart card. But taking out multiple subscriptions goes too far for many viewers. Card sharing – sharing a smart card – is therefore a popular solution.
Card sharing can be done indoors via a private network or special system, or outdoors via an internet connection. But is it actually allowed?
Many television providers state in their general terms and conditions that the smart card may only be used in one decoder. In the Netherlands there is no real case law yet on sharing a smart card, but it is clear that sharing a smart card outside the home environment – for example by using the internet – is a violation of Dutch law.
