CBBC, BBC Four, and CBeebies were removed from the Ziggo channel list as of November 1. This change affects many viewers across the Netherlands—especially expats and families who regularly watched BBC children’s and cultural content. Fortunately, there is a free and simple alternative to keep watching these channels.
Ziggo has not released an official explanation for the removal. In most cases, such decisions are related to licensing costs, regional broadcasting rights, or low viewership figures. Regardless of the reason, the removal of these BBC channels has disappointed many loyal viewers.
The good news is that CBBC, BBC Four, and CBeebies are still available free-to-air via satellite. These channels are broadcast unencrypted through the Astra 2 satellite at 28.2° East, which covers most of Europe.
To access them, you’ll need:
A satellite dish aligned to Astra 28.2°E
A DVB-S2 compatible satellite receiver
A clear southern view of the sky
Once installed, scan for channels and you’ll regain access to your favorite UK broadcasts—without any subscription.
Satellite TV is a reliable long-term solution for watching British TV abroad. A one-time installation provides access to over 100 channels including:
BBC One
BBC Two
ITV
Channel 4
Channel 5
BBC Parliament
and more…
All are broadcast in standard or high definition, completely free.
In addition to the main BBC channels, you can also receive several children’s and educational stations via satellite. These include:
CBBC
CBeebies
POP UK
Tiny Pop
CITV
This offers a wide selection of safe, English-language content for kids of all ages.
The Astra satellite also carries BBC national radio stations, such as:
BBC Radio 1–6
BBC World Service
BBC Radio 4 Extra
BBC Asian Network
These radio broadcasts are also free-to-air and available across much of Europe.
Although CBBC BBC Four CBeebies Ziggo service has ended, viewers still have free, legal ways to access these BBC channels. A satellite dish aligned to Astra 28.2°E brings British content back to your screen—with no ongoing costs. It’s a practical and permanent alternative for those who want reliable access to UK programming.
