A Starlink global outage on July 24 disconnected thousands of users around the world from their satellite internet service. The widespread disruption drew immediate attention, as Starlink is often the only high-speed option available in remote areas. Users across multiple continents experienced the impact simultaneously.

Downdetector received over 25,000 user-submitted reports by 4:18 p.m. ET, indicating a sharp spike in complaints that started around 3:13 p.m. The outage affected users across multiple continents, including North America, Europe, and parts of Asia.

Doug Madory, a network expert at Kentik, analyzed internet traffic data and explained that Starlink completely stopped routing data during the event. He described the situation as highly unusual and one of the most significant outages the platform has faced.

On X (formerly Twitter), Starlink stated:

“We are currently experiencing a network outage and are actively implementing a solution.”

Elon Musk followed up with a post saying that SpaceX engineers had already identified the root cause. He added that the team was working on a long-term fix to ensure this type of issue doesn’t happen again.

This Starlink global outage caused concern, especially among users in remote regions who rely on Starlink as their primary internet source. Since many of these users don’t have access to alternative services, even a short disruption can have major impacts.

As of now, some users have reported partial restoration, but Starlink hasn’t yet announced a full recovery timeline. SpaceX continues to update users through official channels.
